    Collectively studies have shown that carbonate facies are commonly the product of processes that are active in their depositional setting. Water depth, winds, waves, currents, temperature, water chemistry, and biologic action all affect the character of the carbonate formed. Diagenesis, which also plays a major role in forming and modifying the facies that are found in the subsurface, ?&pageid=90&4.   Silurian pinnacle reefs that produce handsomely in a narrow zone basinward of the encircling platform carbonates and associated barrier reefs.
